New Orleans, City of Cultural DiversityThe City Of New Orleans is designated as the city of cultural diversity, celebrating its diversity of cultures and people. On June 10, 2005, the International Arts Foundation held a celebration for the City of New Orleans in Waldenburg Park in the French Quarter. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have caused much damage and destruction, both physically and psychologically, but what it did not destroy is the will of the people. We are a strong and enduring people with a long history of overcoming adversity. The hurricane has spread many New Orleanians throughout this country, but we are slowly returning to be with one another again. We are back and have returned with a determination to rebuild this wonderful city and create a better place for us all to be. On September 15 th, we invite you to join us at City Park, Marconi Meadows Drive from 2PM – 10PM for a day of music, dance, food, arts and crafts, and the continual process of healing through the use of art and music, as we all continue to recover and rebuild our city. We look forward to seeing each other’s smiling faces and Cultural Diversity day will only enhance this bond between us. Diversity day will bring a breath of fresh air to the city’s increasing landscape and will welcome the newcomers as well as long time citizens. New Orleans has a long-standing tradition of having a “gumbo” culture of people. There are Irish, French, African, Spanish and Native American descendants that celebrate their long history of being here in New Orleans. Diversity day will bring people together under one umbrella. Join us at the IAF Children's World Playground were all ages participate in a rejuvenation of community spirit, cultural exchange and edu-tainment through art and music. Children will enjoy a day of mask making, water painting, coloring and a variety of arts & crafts, as well as storytelling, dance workshops and an energetic drum session The International Arts Foundation proposes to use Diversity Day as another way of healing using art and music as one of many ways to move towards the long road of recovery. In keeping with this theme, we are bringing people together again on that day, from all walks of life, to celebrate the diversity of people and cultures that are so prevalent to the City of New Orleans . With music and resource information, focusing on diversity, people will experience the true Gumbo of New Orleans. Celebrate Cultural Diversity, click the link below and view photos from the festival.
