The International Arts Foundation Celebrates Cultural Diversity

Marconi Meadows City Park
September 15, 2007 2PM – 10PM

The City Of New Orleans, a place of diverse culture and people was designated on June 10, 2005 by the International Arts Foundation as the City of Cultural Diversity at Waldenburg Park in the French Quarter.

Within three months, hurricanes Katrina and Rita caused much damage and destruction both physically and psychologically. But, it did not destroy the will of the people. We are a strong and enduring people with a long history of overcoming adversity. The hurricane has spread many of us but we are slowly returning to the state of Louisiana to be with one another again.

On September 15, 2007, join us at City Park, Marconi Meadows Drive from 2PM – 10PM, for a healing day of music, dance, food, arts and crafts, as we continue to recover and rebuild our city.

The International Arts Foundation proposes to use Diversity Day as another way of healing through the use of art and music as one of many ways to move towards the long road of recovery.

In keeping with that theme, we are bringing people together again on that day, from all walks of life, to celebrate the diversity of people and cultures that is prevalent to the City of New Orleans. People will experience the true Gumbo of New Orleans through the use of music and resource information that focuses on diversity.

We look forward to seeing each others smiling faces. Diversity day will bring a breath of fresh air to the city’s increasing landscape. We will welcome the newcomers as well as long time citizens.   New Orleans has a long-standing tradition of a "gumbo" culture of people that includes the Irish, French, African, Spanish and Native American descendants that celebrate their long history as native New Orleaneans.   Diversity day will bring people together under one umbrella and will only enhance this bond between us.

Join us at the IAF Children's Global Playground were all ages participate in a rejuvenation of community spirit, cultural exchange and edu-tainment through art and music. Children can enjoy a day of mask making, water painting, coloring and a variety of arts & crafts as well as storytelling, dance workshops and an energetic drum session.

We are back and have returned with a determination to rebuild this wonderful city and create a better place for us all.

"Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."
